THE NARRATOR

nar•ra•tor /‘ nar-“A-t&r/ noun: One who tells (as a story) in detail; also: one who provides spoken commentary for (as a movie or television show). The Narrator laid down a musical story by throwing the book at your head. Such triumph begins casually enough with the first bit of “New Blood/New Weather“ but then the shouting vocals, galloping drums, whining guitars distortions, and punctuated symbol crashes stomp in this brazen and loud theme— let’s say early Modest Mouse— carries on throughout the album. Tracks like “Pregnant Boys“ and “This Party’s Over” are the accessible high points, mellowing out a bit on “Wolves in the Walls“ but make no mistake, they keep the distortion in there. The plot of their sonic sequels remains to be seen, but if the theme is severity and noise, they get their point across.
