GLOW LAB
Back in kindergarten you had psychogeography down pat. Remember when you would draw chalk pictures on the sidewalk, gather different types of leaves on your walk home from the bus, or go exploring for treasure on the sidewalk with your friends? Wasn’t that fun?
Now thanks to Art Interactive (AI) in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the greater Boston area has the opportunity to experience all the wonder of psycho geography during Glowlab: The Open Lab. Glowlab is a Brooklyn-based community which explores psychogeography in relation to contemporary art and is bringing together over 20 innovative artists to present eight weeks worth of moments i.e. site specific exhibits on the urban landscape while the Art Interactive gallery serves as a working lab with videos and project documentation of the moments. The exhibit, curated by Glowlab’s founder Christina Ray, will feature artists leading installations in the gallery, but is meant to expand throughout the community to engage visitors within the neighborhood and the community as a whole with such activities as a laughing bike tour, wearable trash workshop, and following your neighbors. The result is an exhibit which lives up to AI’s mission to present art that is contemporary, experimental, and participatory. Dare we add...fun?

EL TEN ELEVEN
Bar None Records
Talking on the phone to family, driving around town with the windows down, and writing emails to friends are all simple acts that blend together to make a regular day pleasant and satisfying. El Ten Eleven is like that. Simply two guys, Kristian Dunn playing on either bass or guitar/bass double neck and Tom Fogarty on either acoustic or electric drums, create a mellow and ambient blend of instrumental sounds where you aren’t bored or feeling that what you’re hearing is monotonous and dragging. Any thread of similarity seems more like gratifying familiarity. Each track is distinct, but blends well as an album, whether the tracks are listened at random or consecutively. El Ten Eleven doesn’t require an elaborate effort to get things done, keeps you on track, and at the end of the day, is pleasant and satisfying.
